Is Your Roof Ready For Winter?
The chilly evening temperatures have made it to the Tri-State area (Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania) and it probably won’t be long before Old Man Winter starts knocking on the door during the day. For many, this is a time to start slowing down a bit and cruise into the holidays and hope for an early Spring. However, we encourage you to do an inspection of your shingles now (use binoculars from the ground or call us to scale the top of your home) and see if an upgrade is needed while the weather allows. Since winter can be very hard on your roof, it is important to make sure your roof is ready to handle what lies ahead.
The Roof Problem In Winter
A typical scenario is that a front moves through overnight and drops an inch or two of snow on your roof. Then, the following day, temperatures warm up a bit. The melting process can be slow and take longer to drain away than rain.
So the rising temperature during the day melts the snow, which starts to make its way to the internal roof drains or parapet wall scuppers. But before all the melting snow can drain off the roof, the shortened daylight hours and plunging temperatures close in again, causing the water to re-freeze. If your roof has failing seams, cuts, abrasions, or holes, the water will penetrate those areas, expanding when it freezes, causing more damage.
As this cycle of melting and re-freezing continues, the moisture will either go away as the air dries it out or stay locked in to the cavities for a longer period of time, causing the roof to fail.
We May Be The Solution
The professionals at MTB Windows & More are trained to inspect, repair and replace roofs the right way. We use the GAF Shingle System to ensure the materials are high quality and the installation is secure, with a wind rating of up to 130 mph.

Fall is not too late to start planning on putting a barrier of windows, doors, roofing and siding for the colder temperatures coming soon.
Do your windows let cold air in to your home? Do you hear the whistling of the winter winds coming around the corners of your exterior doors? Is your roof able to withstand another round of freezing temperatures, snow and ice?
If you can’t say “yes” to all of these, plan to contact the professionals at MTB Windows & More before it gets too late in the year and you may have to rely on another company that does not install the high quality materials that MTB recommends for a job done right.
Contact us today if you are in the Hagerstown, Greencastle, Martinsburg or
Frederick areas for an assessment and quote on taking care of these problems now, before the situation becomes dire in the middle of winter.
We Will Never Forget The Tragic Events of 9/11
The professionals at MTB Windows & More hope you and your family have a fun and safe Labor Day weekend!
Did You Know: Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. This year it is September 5th. The holiday honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.
Beginning in the late 19th century, as the trade union and labor movements grew, trade unionists proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate workers. In 1887, Oregon was the first state of the United States to make it an official public holiday. By the time it became an official federal holiday in 1894, thirty U.S. states officially celebrated Labor Day.
Canada’s Labour Day is also celebrated on the first Monday of September. More than 80 countries celebrate International Workers’ Day on May 1 – the ancient European holiday of May Day – and several countries have chosen their own dates for Labour Day.

More Than $300 Billion to be Spent on Remodeling and Additions by Early 2017
A new study is predicting that 2017 will see American homeowners once again spending big money on home renovations and upgrades as the housing market continues to stabilize and grow in many areas. The main reason for this is that equity is growing in the real estate — primary homes and investment properties — which means there is available cash for upgrades.
The types of projects expected to dominate the surge include the usual suspects; bathrooms, kitchens, additions and outdoor living spaces, like decks and patios. Other upgrades — which have likely been put off until a brighter financial day arrived — include new windows and doors, roof replacements, siding and HVAC systems.
The author of this article on the matter, is expecting the increase in spending to be around 8 percent by early 2017, which would be more than 3 percent above the historical average. To read all about the wave of home improvement spending that is anticipated, click here.

One Week After Brexit, Markets Are Normalizing and Any Threat to The US Housing Market Seems to Have Faded
For anyone who was panicking that the stock market would crash and the US recovery — especially the housing market — would sink as well, it looks like things will be okay. While we know that there is a long way to go in the process and how the rest of the world will be effected, we are happy that early reports are contradictory to the “doomsday” reports that happened in the hours that followed the UK leaving the European Union.
In fact, some conservative experts are saying that the fear of global volatility will likely keep the Federal Government from increasing interest rates. This is good news for those still considering borrowing money to buy or build a new home – we recommend Mt. Tabor Builders in Clear Spring, MD for this project — or do a major home remodeling or renovation project. Even just two weeks after the exit, US Stock Markets are hitting new highs.
Here is an article that speaks to the early results of the UK’s decision to go independent. #Brexit
